Meet the Judges

Dr. Louise Peach
Dr. Louise Peach is a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, specialising in major colorectal and urology surgeries. She has a particular interest in frailty and perioperative delirium, conditions critical to optimising surgical outcomes for older and more vulnerable patients. A graduate of the University of Edinburgh in 2011, Dr. Peach was appointed as a Consultant Anaesthetist in 2021. Her expertise has been pivotal in advancing perioperative care, exemplified through her leadership as the Principal Investigator for the SNAP3 study at Western General Hospital. Beyond her clinical and research contributions, Dr. Peach facilitates ethical discussions for first-year MBChB students at the University of Edinburgh, guiding them in synthesising complex medical dilemmas and fostering ethical reasoning. We are honoured to welcome Dr. Louise Peach as a judge for the Young Doctors Essay Competition. Her wealth of experience and insight into the complexities of modern medicine ensures a valuable perspective that will empower students to think deeply about the challenges and opportunities in patient care.

Professor Keith McNaught
Dr. Keith McNaught is the Associate Professor and Rural Academic Lead at Curtin Medical School. With over 40 years of experience, he is a passionate advocate for advancing regional medical education, and specialises in curating innovative medical education programs to address the unique healthcare challenges faced by rural and Indigenous communities. An accomplished researcher with over 40 peer-reviewed publications, Professor McNaught combines academic leadership with practical impact. His expertise spans medical education, health equity, and values-based leadership, exemplified by his tenure as Regional Director of Mission Integration at St John of God Health Care from 2015 to 2019. We are delighted to welcome Professor McNaught as a judge for the Young Doctors Essay Competition.
